A uniform is a standard set of clothing worn by employees while they are in the organization or any related working place. Generally, uniforms are worn by armed forces, schoolchildren, emergency service officials, hospital staff etc. Today, many employers are making their employees wear uniform in the working hours.
Some of the industries are focused on customer service. Their business or work depends upon their customers and their reviews like people working in departmental stores, hospitals and restaurants. A uniformed staff reflects unity and eagerness to serve. This makes the customers trust the staff and approach them with confidence.
Uniform as Perks
Some of the large organizations have a ritual of providing a uniform to an official as a token of appreciation, perk and honor. On the other hand, you do not have to spend a fortune in buying work appropriate clothes. You do not have to waste your precious time every time you get ready for work selecting your clothes.
Many a time, it happens that one of your colleagues comes to the work place wearing expensive clothing. You feel left out or down about yourself and create a negative feeling about that person. A uniform is set for all the levels of personnel in the organization. No matter how poor or rich you are, you are treated equally in the organization without any discrimination.
Wearing a uniform in a work place makes people care about each other. You start caring about your organization as a whole rather than just yourself. A uniform makes you feel as one and you tend to work together without any personal problems whatsoever.
If all the people in the organization wear the same clothes, the employees tend to build a sense of belonging and commonness amongst each other. You feel like a group or a family, which belongs to each other. You find yourself as similar as the next person without separating yourself according to post or income level.
From the perspective of the organization, one of the main reasons of having a uniform in the work place is that the uniforms have their company logos on them. So even if the worker steps out of the work place he/she carries the company image with them. An individual represents the whole organization. This can be a big asset for the organization.
It is a common fact that we trust people in uniform. A uniformed gardener, electrician, plumber is our first choice rather than a person visiting our house in casual clothes. A uniform builds up a trust level on the person because of the representing organization.
Most of the organizations have made it a rule to wear uniforms at the work place. It can become one of the greatest assets from employer’s as well as employee’s point of view.
