Bedbug infestation is commonly seen in houses and especially in bedrooms. Bedbugs are small, brownish insects that feast on blood of animals. Adult bedbugs have flat bodies and after feeding on blood their bodies swell to reddish color. Bedbugs can enter your home through outside luggage, used beds or couches. Due to their flat bodies, they can fit anywhere without being noticed. Their initial hiding places are typically in mattresses, bed frames etc where they have easy access to bite people.
Removing bedbugs completely is very tedious affair and time consuming. In order to remove bedbugs completely you might take few steps.
Determine which rooms are infested. Bedrooms are generally infested faster. Even living rooms can be infested very fast. Typically, infestation starts in one room and spreads to all places where people sleep. If you wait too long or find infestation in later stage, it might get difficult to remove the bug infestation. Do not throw away your bed, as it is expensive to replace beddings and mattresses. Instead of spending money on buying new mattresses, you can hire a professional pest control agency like Pest Control Sydney.
Find a safe place to sleep. This aspect is critical because staying in your own bed will reduce the risk of spreading throughout the home. If you sleep in any other room, bed bugs will infest there too. To avoid infestation in multiple rooms, it is essential to make a space in your room. To make room in your bedroom, you must do few things
Stripping and Vacuuming
After stripping and vacuuming the mattresses, you can put double bag on the mattress, wash in hot water, and then dry for at least 30 minutes. Discard the inner bg as it might have bed bugs. Again, vacuum the mattress and discard vacuum bag. You should put bed bug proof encasement on your mattress to prevent any bed bug from escaping away. The zippers on bed bug encasements are fashioned to be tight enough to prevent even the smallest of the bed bugs from escaping.
Isolating your bed from the rest of the house is also a good option. If you do not use a bed, then you can purchase a frame and rest the mattress on top of it. You can put cup interceptors under all the feet to prevent bed bugs from climbing on the bed. Few devices like climbup interceptor require redusting with talcum powder to make them slippery again. This will prevent bugs from climbing the bed.
Before giving any treatment to the infested furniture, it is necessary that you separate it from the non-infested areas. Take all clothes from drawers and double pack them. Then systematically treat the entire room covering all crevices, carpets and void areas in the room. Vacuum does not remove all the bed bugs. Sticky tape is another method for picking up bugs from furniture and walls. Treat bagged items also. For washable items, you can opt for dry cleaning, hot washing for 30 minutes or tumble drying.
While using insecticides for killing bed bugs, you need to be cautious. Most of the sprays will only kill bugs if they are directly applied on the insect. Diatomaceous earth dust is also a good option for killing bed bugs. This dessicates the bed bugs when they encounter it. It is very effective and not expensive.
You can also use low toxicity sprays that kill bed bugs when they come in contact. Alcohol and soap based sprays are also effective but cannot be used for long-term effects. They will need to be sprayed again when dried. Pyrethroid sprays are long lasting and stronger. However, most bugs are now resistant to them.
With so many tips and various options available, you can surely make your bed and room bug free.
