Scientists in the United States claim that drinking red wine may help people with excess weight burn fat better while at the same time improving liver function. However, a newer study indicates that the effects of fat burning may not be as considerable. Also, consuming particular red grapes or drinking their juice may offer the same benefits. Dr. Neil Shay, who is a renowned biochemist, and molecular biologist at Oregon State University states that the study indicates that Muscadine grapes may help people with weight management and other related metabolic disorders. However, there is still no ample evidence of such thus it is not recommended to consume red wine just for weight loss.
Ellagic Acid and Other Chemicals
Grapes contain ellagic acid that has been shown to slow significantly in the growth of existing fat cells and at the same slow down formation of new fat cells. It also helps improve how the liver cells metabolize fatty acids. Take note that ellagic acid can also be found in other fruits and vegetables. In a similar study conducted on overweight mice, a specific type of red grape extract with ellagic acid has been shown to offer health improvements. The amount used would be around 1.5 cups of grapes per day for a person. Aside from ellagic acid, other chemicals that bind to PPAR-alpha and PPAR-gamma nuclear hormone receptors promoting the metabolism of fat and sugar within cells.
What Does It All Mean?
There is still no substantial evidence that red wine has a considerable effect in fat burning. Thus, it is still not advisable to start drinking red wine for the purpose of burning body fat. It would still be best to change your lifestyle including your diet and activity level for optimal weight loss and fat burning.
Simple Ways to Burn More Body Fat
Here are easy and proven ways that can help you burn fat:
Most people are trying to lose weight tend to skip breakfast thinking that it will help them burn more body fat. Eating breakfast jump-starts the metabolism that is very important for weight loss and fat burning. Experts say that people who skip breakfast are more than four times more likely to be obsessed with food. Make sure to get some protein and complex carbohydrates to keep you full until lunchtime.
Increase Protein Intake
Protein is very important in maintaining and gaining lean muscle. In an article published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition researchers found that the recommended daily intake of a protein that is 0.36 grams per pound of body weight is considerably inadequate for anyone who is physically active. It would be better to get at least 0.54 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight daily if you are physically active. A protein drink can boost your protein intake easily, but you can just eat lean cuts of meat like chicken and turkey.
Go Organic If Possible
Going organic is a little more expensive but your health and waistline will thank you for it. Dieters with the most pollutants from pesticides in the body have a much slower metabolism. The number one source of such pollutants is produce that have been exposed to pesticides. Organic food products contain none or only very little of these pollutants.
Capsaicin that is the compound that gives chili peppers their heat can boost the metabolism. This is why there are many fat burning supplements that contain capsaicin or chilli pepper extract. A study published in the Journal of Nutritional Science and Vitamin ology indicates that a tablespoon of chopped peppers can increase the metabolism by about 23% temporarily.
Walking is surely one of the best forms of exercise. Anyone can do it almost in any place. Even a short walk before breakfast, during your lunch break or after dinner can help you get rid of excess weight. You can even walk around in the office or school during your breaks to burn more calories and help you burn more body fat.
Weight loss exercise is one of the best ways to reduce body fat. It boosts your metabolism for up to 48 hours after your workout so your body will become a fat-burning machine. It also helps increase lean muscle mass which important for weight management. You just need two 45 minute sessions each week to utilize the fat burning capability of resistance training.
Again, there is still no substantial evidence that drinking red wine helps with fat burning. For this reason, it is advisable to utilize the conventional (and proven) ways of burning fat and not relying on a “miracle cure” for body fat.
