Though the primary concern of most brides when planning their wedding is to make sure everything is as spectacular as she’s imagined for all these years, another factor that many people want to consider is being environmentally friendly. Though you only get one wedding and you want it to be perfect, there really isn’t anything beautiful about damaging our delicate environment in the process. Unfortunately, too many brides ignore this fact, and most wedding usually result in a large amount of waste when everything is over. This isn’t really the result of an intentional act of the bride and groom but rather the fact that most wedding favors are designed and crafted for profits; not for environmental responsibility.
Additionally, it can be much less expensive to buy items that are made from plastic rather than Earth-friendly materials that biodegrade over time. Weddings are very expensive from the get-go, so adding on additional expenses to remain green can sometimes be easier said than done. For example, the cheapest wedding sparklers that you can find to buy will be a lot less expensive than most of the eco-friendly wedding favors you’ll run into during your normal shopping routine. Fortunately, there are some inexpensive green wedding favors that you can find locally that won’t rip a hole in your wedding budget, and here are a few of my personal favorites.
Seed bombs are my personal favorite wedding favor because they truly let your guests watch your relationship bloom well after your wedding is over. Basically, a seed bomb is a ball of flower seeds and nutrients that you bury in quality soil, water, and watch grow. Seed bombs are available in a variety of different types such as wildflowers or herbs so you can choose what you think your guests will like best. Seed bombs are not only eco-friendly; they actually are a positive item for the environment which is why I rank them as my personal favorite green wedding favors. Not mention your guests are truly going to love them as a wedding favor.
Confetti has been a long time staple at weddings. Unless you’ve lived under a rock your entire life, then you’ve seen the classic wedding exit where the bride and groom are exiting the chapel while their guests are lined up to toss confetti. Originally, most couples used rice for this practice until it was discovered to be very harmful to the digestive system of birds. Then, people started using birdseed which is still popular today. However, birdseed isn’t appropriate everywhere, so now you can choose biodegradable confetti. This way, you can get all the fun of regular confetti without hurting the environment. Best of all, biodegradable wedding confetti is dirt cheap to buy.
Bamboo Salad Servers
For those of you who didn’t know, bamboo is by far one of the most renewable plants on Earth. Bamboo matures incredibly quickly, it’s already very abundant, and it is very strong so a little goes a long way. Additionally, it is very insect resistant and water-friendly (since it grows in water), so bamboo is an ideal choice for kitchen utensils. If you’re looking for a great wedding favor for your guests, my favorite choice is a set of bamboo salad servers. They are small and useful, but best of all they will last a very long time and eliminate the need for plastic salad tongs in your kitchen drawer.
